KTM 390 Adventure X is a new, affordable ADV motorcycle that comes with profound mechanical capability with essential electronic support. It still shares the powertrain and chassis with its less expensive predecessor and throws off some luxury features to render the price affordable. It is ideal for riders who are after functional touring hardware available at an affordable price, but the absence of aids to the riders can be a trade-off for others.
The KTM 390 Adventure X boasts the signature KTM ADV styling, characterized by a tall stance, high front fender, and sharp body panels. It comes in bold color schemes that highlight its off-road-ready persona. The LED headlamp, knuckle guards, and rugged metal bash plate reinforce its purpose-built look for both tarmac and trails.
It has a seat height of 825 mm, which might not be comfortable for shorter riders, and this makes visibility and control very good. WP Apex long-travel suspension and off-road-oriented tyres make the bike stable when changing terrains, and the broad handlebar provides greater leverage when off-roading.
The KTM 390 Adventure X combines a proven 398.63 cc engine with dual-channel ABS featuring an off-road mode, LED lighting, Quickshifter+, and a slipper clutch to deliver essential adventure touring capabilities. It comes equipped with a sharp and clear 5-inch TFT display that provides all necessary ride information. The bike focuses on delivering practical, reliable performance with rugged WP suspension and off-road-ready tires.
In the sub-400cc adventure motorcycle category, the KTM 390 Adventure X competes with the Royal Enfield Himalayan and BMW G 310 GS. Compared to the Himalayan, it features a more powerful engine and lighter construction, resulting in improved on-road agility.
Against the BMW G 310 GS, the 390 Adventure X offers superior off-road readiness while being more affordable. However, it does miss out on certain features, such as switchable ABS at the rear. Overall, the 390 Adventure X strikes a balance between performance, versatility, and value, making it a strong contender in its segment.
The KTM 390 Adventure X is capable; it has a strong performance with reliable off-road ABS, Quickshifter+, and capable WP suspension at an attractive price point. It is for riders who need only basic adventure features without extra features. However, the 825 mm seat height may not be accessible for shorter riders, and while the suspension is capable, it will be limited in adjustment and fine-tuning.
The 14.5-liter fuel tank will be limiting for long-distance travel, requiring frequent gas stops. Overall, the 390 Adventure X is a great value and a well-rounded bike that checks all the boxes for tech, performance, and price, but may not work for all ergonomic needs.
The KTM 390 Adventure X starts at approximately ₹2.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The KTM 390 Adventure X features a 5” TFT display, Off-road ABS, Quickshifter+, USB-C charging, and LED lights, but lacks cruise control, cornering ABS, and traction control found in the standard variant.
The KTM 390 Adventure X features like Off-road ABS Mode. While these support basic adaptability, they lack Cornering ABS and advanced ride modes like Rain or full Off-road Mode offered in the standard 390 Adventure.
