New Maharashtra EV Policy 2025: Subsidies, Toll Waivers And More

The Maharashtra government has implemented a new policy to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. The government is aiming for 30 percent EV penetration by 2030 with the help of subsidies and other benefits. Here is a detailed look at everything that the new Maharashtra EV policy entails:
No Toll For Passenger Vehicles
Passenger electric vehicles will now attract no toll charges on highways connecting Mumbai to Pune and Nagpur. These highways include the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg and Atal Setu. Highways under the PWD are under consideration for this exemption.
Subsidies For Buses and Fleet Vehicles
The new Maharashtra EV policy 2025 now includes subsidies to incentivise electric transportation vehicles over their ICE counterparts. The effective benefits are tabulated below:

The incentive is calculated as 10 percent of the ex-showroom cost of the vehicle. Private vehicles attract an incentive of Rs 1.50 lakh. The new policy retains zero road tax and RC fees for all EVs registered in Maharashtra. These benefits are now extended to 2030.

More Charging Stations
The policy aims to increase the number of EV chargers available across the state. Plans include EV charging facility every 25 km on highways, atleast one charging point on every petrol pump and bus stops.The government will also provide subsidies to set up charging stations of up to Rs 10 lakh.
The government released an amendment to the building code to introduce the following changes regarding charging stations:
- All parking spots in new residential areas must have a charging point, while existing ones must have 50 percent.
- Commercial areas should have 50 percent parking spaces ready to be used as charging spots for EVs.
Expectations For The New Policy
The Maharashtra government plans to have atleast 30 percent EVs in the state by 2030. The policy is aimed at cutting down 325 tonnes of PM 2.5 and 1 million tonnes of GHG emissions. The government aims to become the hub for EVs in India.
